Foot & Ankle Care
Senior Foot & Ankle Care
The foot and ankle provide the most crucial support, but they are often overlooked until problems arise.
For many seniors, foot problems and ankle pain are common afflictions. Symptoms may present independently, or they can stem from other conditions, such as arthritis, hypertension, and diabetes.
In House Senior Services provides comprehensive, personalized podiatry services to seniors of all mobility levels. We respect every patient’s medical history and care preferences.
By choosing INHSS for your facility, you can provide seniors with attentive on-site podiatry care, whenever they need it.
Preventative Foot Care
Keeping seniors’ feet healthy is part of preventative care alongside symptom management. As seniors age, they may develop natural changes to their feet that require ongoing care.
Some of the preventative care services we provide treat common feet affiliations, such as:
- Heel pain
- Pain in the ball of the foot
- Bunions
- Ingrown nails
- Neuromas
- Shoe and insert fittings and suggestions
Treatment for Peripheral Artery Disease
Peripheral artery disease affects 1 in 10 of all adults over 65, yet it remains highly undiagnosed and untreated.
We collaborate with Minneapolis Vascular Physicians to offer rapid diagnosis and treatment for this common yet largely unknown condition.
PAD affects 12 million people in the United States, though as many as 50% remain without treatment and are at risk of amputation.
Our physicians know how to spot the early warning signs of the disease and provide swift interventions to lower patient risk, decrease symptoms, and prevent complications.
Management for Ongoing Foot Problems
There is a broad range of problems that seniors can experience with their feet in old age. We have crafted our podiatry services to cover all the major issues seniors are likely to face, as well as any they may go on to experience as their health changes.
Treatment services from our podiatrists include:
- Debridement of mycotic and dystrophic toenails
- Callouses, corns, and ingrown toenail removal
- Ulcerations, abscesses, and subungual hematomas treatment
- Foot and tissue infection treatments
- Lower limb amputation prevention plans
- Nail care up to 5 times per year based on necessity per Medicare guidelines
Every patient’s unique needs and circumstances are taken into account as we coordinate the right foot care plan. We also collaborate with other members of their care team to ensure they get the holistic, detailed care they deserve.
Diabetic Foot Care
Diabetes affects nearly 30% of America’s senior population, and many people are unaware just how much this disease impacts foot health.
Diabetics are at a much higher risk of lower limb amputation due to peripheral artery disease and nerve damage (diabetic neuropathy).
Podiatrists play a large role in a patient’s diabetic care. They can help manage the symptoms of both PAD and diabetic neuropathy, as well as manage pain and prevent ulcers and skin conditions.
Custom diabetic shoes and inserts that provide protection and prevention can be ordered by the podiatrist and delivered on-site for a proper fitting.
We also offer off-loading durable medical equipment (such as wheelchairs and walkers) that are covered under Medicare Part B.
“We had the podiatrist at Madonna Summit for the second time and again were so pleased! The residents talk about him for days after he has been there.”
